    Eurozone industrial output remains unchanged as EU records 0.2% growth

    BRUSSELS, BELGIUM / RankWire.AI / – In June 2026, industrial activity in the euro area stayed flat compared to the previous month, while the European Union saw a modest 0.2% increase in production. According to Eurostat, both regions experienced a 0.3% monthly expansion in May. When compared to June 2025, output grew by 0.1% in the euro zone and 0.6% across the EU. The latest figures indicated gains in energy and some consumer goods sectors, although capital and intermediate goods faced declines.

    The strongest monthly rise within the euro area was seen in non-durable consumer goods, which increased by 3.0% in June. Energy output went up by 1.5%, and durable consumer goods production edged 0.3% higher. Meanwhile, capital goods fell by 1.4%, and intermediate goods dropped 0.8%. The euro-area industrial production index held steady at 98.7, with 2021 serving as the base year of 100. In May, there had been more robust gains in non-durable consumer goods and energy production.

    Across the EU, non-durable consumer goods rose by 2.5% month-over-month, with energy output increasing by 1.0%. Durable consumer goods advanced 0.9%, but capital goods declined by 0.9%, and intermediate goods fell by 0.7%. The EU’s production index moved up to 101.0 in June from 100.8 in May. It was at 99.2 in January and gradually climbed each month through June, based on the latest official data.

    Contrasting national trends emerge within the EU

    Among member states with available data, Denmark experienced the largest monthly increase at 5.4%, with Croatia following at 5.2%. Lithuania and Finland each saw a 2.1% rise. Luxembourg recorded the biggest decline at 10.7%, while Portugal and Estonia faced decreases of 3.9% and 2.2%, respectively. Among the major economies, Germany grew by 0.2%, France’s output remained steady, Italy saw a 1.0% decline, and Spain’s industrial production dropped by 0.7%.

    Annual comparisons across different industrial categories revealed uneven performance. Euro-area intermediate goods grew by 0.4% from June 2025, energy increased by 0.9%, and capital goods rose slightly by 0.1%. Conversely, durable consumer goods fell by 2.5%, and non-durable consumer goods decreased by 0.5%. Within the EU, industrial output was up 0.6% from a year earlier, with intermediate goods gaining 1.0%, energy increasing by 0.3%, and capital goods rising by 0.9%.

    Lithuania leads annual growth as May data is revised upward

    Lithuania recorded the highest annual increase among reporting members, with industrial production rising by 7.7% from June 2025. Denmark followed with a 6.1% rise, and Poland increased by 4.9%. Finland advanced 4.6%, Hungary grew by 4.1%, and Czechia experienced a 4.0% increase. Luxembourg had the steepest annual decline at 7.9%, with Romania falling 5.6% and Estonia decreasing 4.6%. Germany and France each declined by 0.5%, while Italy dropped by 0.6%, and Spain saw a 1.0% increase.

    Eurostat also updated its May estimates following revisions to the figures released in July. The euro-area monthly result shifted to a 0.3% increase from an earlier 0.2% decline, while the EU figure moved from a 0.1% fall to a 0.3% gain. The annual May data was revised to show a 0.1% decline in the euro area and a 0.6% rise across the EU. These regional figures are based on seasonally adjusted national industrial production data.
